Ayurvedic Yoga Massage is an amazing and strong massage technique that brings Ayurveda and Yoga together and was developed by Kusum Modak, a pupil of B.K.S. Iyengar, in Poona, India.
Ayurvedic Yoga Massage incorporates various elements such as lymph-drainage, manual therapy, Osteopathy, Shiatsu & Yoga Therapy. These are combined to give you a deep muscle and connective tissue massage, using yoga and muscle stretches to open the joints and bring your body & mind back to balance.
Ayurvedic Yoga Massage incorporates use of not only the hands, but the feet as well in order to produce deeper, longer lasting effects. Practitioners first apply oil (usually coconut or sesame oil) with gentle strokes, the therapist then uses Calamus powder on top of the oil which gives your skin a nice scrub, works to detoxify, and stimulates the blood & lymph system. The full massage lasts for 1,5 to 2 hours and is performed on a mat on the floor.
By working deep in the muscle and opening the body through yoga stretches, blockages, tensions & toxins are removed from the body. Coordinated breathing with the stretches helps to increase and mobilize prana or life energy. This massage- technique increases the flow of vital energy in body & mind and strengthens the immune system, working on root causes of health restrictions like sleeping difficulties, vegetative disturbances, stress, depressive moods, sexual related problems, period pains, anorexia, back pain or other joint problems.
