1. Costa Rica has over 200 volcanic areas.
There are six active volcanoes and another 61 dormant ones. For the past fifty years, Arenal – one of the country’s most famous volcanoes – was the most active. However, in 2010 it entered into a dormant phase.
2. Costa Rica has more than 5% of the globe’s biodiversity
Costa Rica may not be a large country, but it packs a lot of life into its borders. Tourists and locals are drawn to its natural beauty and are committed to preserving it. The country is home to over 500,000 species and with just over 5% of the world’s biodiversity contained in its borders – it’s said to be one of the most biologically extraordinary places on the globe.
3. The surfing is amazing – for beginners and pro’s
Costa Rica, the “rich coast,” has an abundance of awesome breaks and breathtaking natural beauty, making it a top destination for surfers worldwide. There are many surfing schools and surfing camps all around Costa Rica, making it the ideal spot to learn how to get on the waves. There are also beaches with heavier waves, for the more experienced surfer.
4. There is yoga everywhere!
The best studio for yoga is no studio! When you have pristine, beautiful beaches to practise on, who needs a studio? If you want a studio however, there are plenty of them.
5. The hot springs are healing and soothing.
Thanks to the Arenal volcano’s geothermal activity, there are heaps of mineral-laden waters all around Costa Rica. The hot springs in Costa Rica have been used for therapeutic reasons for over 200 years, treating a variety of illness and disease. Whether or not you visit for the mystical healing, a hot springs visit is wonderful!
