Set in the heart of Ubud is Taksu Spa, the host of Shades of Yoga’s teacher training. Although it is in the heart of Ubud its set back on one of the quieter streets and in the jungle. Once you enter this little oasis, calmness fills your entire body.
The grounds at Taksu are expansive. Upon entry, it might look small but what you don’t see is the valley behind the trees which houses some treatment rooms and yoga shalas. You enter Taksu near the reception office. Upstairs is where breakfast is. Which is delicious might we add, but more on that later.
Next to reception is the Garden Terrace Restaurant, a small garden area and the Garden Shala where the yoga teacher training takes place for Shades of Yoga. Mats and props are provided by Taksu so no need to bring yours along if you don’t want to. The shala space is so beautiful, hardwood floors and jungle views! Can’t get much better than that.
The valley below is the haven of tranquility, also known as the Day Spa. Open daily from 9am to 9pm and offering services like traditional Balinese massages, deep tissue massages, aromatherapy, warm stone massages, thai massages, facials, body wraps, and an infrared sauna. Energetic therapies include reiki, myofascial releases, Chinese medicine, and Tuina.
The grounds are perfectly manicured and well looked after daily. With towering trees and colorful flora and fauna. There’s a waterfall that flows from the Garden Shala to the valley below and continues to flow under the wooden bridge. You’ll find Buddhas and even a small temple on the grounds.
The food is nothing short of delicious at Taksu Spa. Fresh coconuts, fruits, vegetables, juices, and a raw take on traditional Balinese dishes like Raw Lumpia and Balinese tapas.
Chef Arif Springs‘ philosophy is grounded in the 8 directions in Hindu dharma. “In nature, each direction has a deity and a jamu,” he explains. “If you see the body as a temple, you know to bring it balance. Prayer, wisdom, and health: all are equally important.”
When doing the Shades of Yoga teacher training, breakfast is included and it is delicious! A daily roundup of vegetables, eggs, yogurt (coconut milk yogurt as well), toast (gluten free too), exotic fruits and juices can be expected! The hot dishes rotate daily from pumpkin to nasi goreng to potatoes to mini quiches. Coffee and tea is served and Taksu provides milk alternative, like coconut milk!
