Shades of Yoga nurtures a deeper connection to yoga, teaching it as a sacred practice that transforms your life from the inside out, beyond the physical postures.
Yoga is for people of all shapes, sizes and experience levels. You don’t have to be young. You don’t have to be flexible. You just have to be.
Shades of Yoga was founded by Tracey Rohan Irwin, whose personal yoga journey began over 22 years ago in her native South Africa. Tracey studied extensively with the original yogis in India, including Pattabhi Jois and B.K.S. Iyengar, and immersed herself in transformative psycho-spiritual practices. These experiences shaped her vision of teacher training as not just asana-based, but a profound, life-transforming journey.
In 2007, Tracey opened her first commercial yoga studio in Umhlanga Rocks, South Africa, offering immersive teacher trainings that inspired practitioners from all walks of life. Over the following years, she expanded trainings across South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Mauritius, as well as running our internationally accredited RYT 200 Teacher Training in Costa Rica, bringing life-changing experiences to students around the globe.
A return to Bali in 2010, where Tracey first studied yoga in 2005, marked the birth of Shades of Yoga in its modern form. Nestled in the heart of Ubud, our studio harnessed the vibrant, healing energy of this spiritual hub, creating a sanctuary of peace, inspiration, and transformation. Here, immersive trainings and retreats nurtured mind, body, and soul, guiding students toward deep growth and authentic self-connection.
Coming in 2026, Shades of Yoga will be reopening in South Africa’s breathtaking Cape Province, launching luxury, life-changing retreats in the serene mountains of the region. These immersive experiences continue our mission to transform lives, blending the physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions of yoga for every student who seeks personal growth and deep connection.
An ideal location was found, right in the heart of Ubud, known for its vibrant and healing energy that draws spiritual seekers and nature lovers from around the globe.
Shades of Yoga training studio is located in an idyllic natural setting, with a world-class vegetarian restaurant on the premises, making it a sanctuary of peace and healing energy.
It is here that Shades of Yoga ran their 9 teacher training courses a year, drawing yoga enthusiasts from all corners of the globe.
Our internationally qualified yoga teacher trainers share their extensive knowledge and experience during the RYT 200 teacher training, alongside inspiring guest teachers who bring unique perspectives and expertise. Classes are intentionally kept small, maximum 12 students, with one primary teacher per course, ensuring personalised guidance and support.
