If you are considering becoming a certified yoga teacher, you do not have to complete your training close to home.
Traveling from the United States to Bali gives you the opportunity to step away from your normal routine and focus completely on your practice, personal development, and teaching skills.
A 200-hour yoga teacher training in Bali combines professional yoga education with the experience of living and learning in one of the world’s best-known yoga destinations.
At Shades of Yoga, our immersive 200-hour yoga teacher training program takes place in Ubud, Bali. Students from around the world come together for 21 days of yoga, meditation, self-inquiry, teaching practice, and personal growth.
Why travel from the USA to Bali for yoga teacher training?
Yoga teacher training programs are available throughout the United States. However, completing your training abroad offers a very different experience.
When you train close to home, everyday responsibilities can continue to compete for your attention. Work, family commitments, errands, and familiar routines may make it difficult to become fully immersed in the process.
Traveling to Bali creates physical and mental space between you and daily life. This allows you to focus on your training, connect with your group, and explore yoga beyond the physical practice.
For many students, it becomes more than a yoga certification course. It becomes an opportunity to pause, reassess, and return home with greater clarity and confidence.
Is a Bali yoga certification recognized in the United States?
Shades of Yoga is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School offering a foundational 200-hour yoga teacher training program.
After completing the program, graduates receive their 200-hour teacher training certificate. This can be used when applying for the RYT 200 credential with Yoga Alliance, subject to Yoga Alliance’s current registration requirements.
This means you can complete your training in Bali and return to the United States with a credential that is familiar to many American yoga studios, gyms, wellness centers, and retreat providers.
Individual employers and studios may have their own hiring requirements. It is always helpful to ask potential employers what qualifications, insurance, experience, or additional training they require.
What does the 200-hour yoga teacher training include?
The Shades of Yoga program goes beyond learning how to demonstrate yoga poses.
Throughout the 21-day training, you will explore the different elements needed to practice and teach yoga safely and confidently.
The curriculum includes:
- Yoga postures and alignment
- Teaching techniques and clear verbal cueing
- Class planning and sequencing
- Practical teaching experience
- Yoga anatomy
- Yoga philosophy
- Meditation
- Pranayama and breathwork
- Personal development
- Self-inquiry
- Professional teaching skills
You will begin developing your teaching skills during the course rather than waiting until the end.
By graduation, you will have practical experience leading students and creating a structured yoga class. You will also have a deeper understanding of your own practice and the kind of teacher you want to become.
Small-group yoga teacher training in Ubud
Shades of Yoga limits each training group to no more than 12 students.
A small group gives you more opportunities to ask questions, receive individual feedback, and practice teaching in a supportive environment.
It also helps the group build a strong sense of trust and connection. You will be learning alongside students from different countries, backgrounds, and levels of experience.
Many graduates leave Bali with more than a certificate. They leave with lasting friendships and an international yoga community.
Do you need to be an advanced yoga student?
You do not need to be able to perform advanced yoga poses to join a 200-hour yoga teacher training program.
Yoga teacher training is not a flexibility competition. You do not need to be young, highly athletic, or experienced in every style of yoga.
You should have a genuine interest in yoga and be willing to learn, practice, and participate fully in the program.
Some students join because they want to become professional yoga instructors. Others join because they want to deepen their personal practice, develop greater self-awareness, or experience a meaningful change in their lives.
Both reasons are valid.
Why choose Ubud for your yoga instructor training?
Ubud is one of Bali’s most established destinations for yoga, wellness, meditation, and personal development.
The Shades of Yoga training location offers a peaceful setting surrounded by rice fields while remaining close to central Ubud. Students can enjoy the calm of the training environment without feeling isolated.
Outside training hours, you can explore Ubud’s restaurants, markets, temples, wellness centers, and cultural attractions.
The location is also close to a wide selection of healthy and plant-based restaurants. This gives you the freedom to choose meals that suit your preferences and budget.
Yoga teacher training with accommodation
Traveling from the United States requires more planning than attending a local yoga course. Choosing a program with accommodation can make the process much easier.
Shades of Yoga offers different packages, including course-only and accommodation options.
Accommodation packages include the complete 21-day training program, lodging, and daily breakfast. We have three accommodation options available: Share Room, Private Room, and Bamboo Room.
You can select the package that best suits your preferred level of comfort and privacy.
If you want to arrange your own hotel, guesthouse, or villa in Ubud, the course-only option provides greater flexibility.
Planning your trip from the United States
International travel can feel overwhelming, especially if it is your first time visiting Southeast Asia.
Allow yourself enough time to plan properly. Important areas to consider include:
- Passport validity
- Current Indonesian visa requirements
- Flights and airport transfers
- Travel and medical insurance
- Accommodation before or after the course
- Spending money and access to funds
- Any medications or personal healthcare requirements
- Time to recover from jet lag
Visa and entry rules can change. Always check current information with the official Indonesian immigration authorities before booking your trip.
It can also be helpful to arrive in Bali a few days before training begins. This gives your body time to adjust to the time difference and allows you to become familiar with Ubud before the program starts.
How long is the training?
The Shades of Yoga RYT 200 program runs for 21 days.
It is an intensive training experience with full days that include physical practice, meditation, philosophy, anatomy, teaching methodology, and practical teaching sessions.
The immersive format allows you to complete your foundational 200-hour training within three weeks rather than spreading it across several months of evenings and weekends.
Although the schedule is focused, there is also time to rest, connect with your group, and experience Ubud.
Is traveling to Bali for YTT worth it?
That depends on what you want from your training.
If you only want the fastest possible way to obtain a certificate, an immersive international program may not be the right choice.
If you want to step away from your routine, deepen your practice, learn to teach, meet people from around the world, and experience meaningful personal growth, Bali offers something difficult to recreate at home.
The environment encourages you to become fully present in the experience.
You arrive as a student. You leave with greater knowledge, practical teaching experience, international friendships, and a clearer understanding of yourself.
